چکیده

The copper containing oxygen carrier haemo cyanin is the predominant protein in the hemolymph of most molluscs, crustaceans and spiders. Despite its abundance and the detailed knowledge on physiological aspects, relatively little informa tion exists on haemocyanin synthesis and its regu lation [1-4], In analogy to haemoglobin, where the addition of haeme influences the haemoglobin production [5], copper has been discussed as a lim iting factor for haemocyanin synthesis, although its role in haemocyanin biosynthesis is unclear till now [2], In a previous study we found a decrease in haemocyanin production by the midgut gland of the crayfish A. leptodactylus after three days of in cubation in a medium without copper [6], The question arose whether copper might be a rate lim iting factor for haemocyanin synthesis. Knowl edge of the concentrations o f copper in the midgut gland and its secretion into the medium during the in vitro incubation as well as an investigation of the influence of exogenous copper on haemocyanin synthesis and secretion should shed some light on the role of copper in haemocyanin biosynthesis. In recent years it has been shown that L-lactate, uric acid and dopamine can modulate oxygen binding of haemocyanin [7-9], but it is not known so far whether these modulators also exert an in fluence on haemocyanin synthesis. We therefore investigated this positive influence of the modula-

A prelimenary study on fecundity of fresh water crayfish (Astacus leptodactylus) in Arass water reservior, I.R. Iran

A research study was conducted to investigate the number of ovarian eggs and estimate potential egg production of A. leptodactylus. In this study, mean number ovarian eggs 420.41±42.51 with the average total length to 121.93±4.27 mm (n=58). The mean pleopodal eggs were 322.04±29.61 with average total length of 119.14±3.94 mm (n=67). Comparison of the fecundity rate in different population of A....

Effect of lactic acid bacteria and the potential probiotic Hafnia alvei on growth and survival rates of narrow clawed crayfish (Astacus leptodactylus Esch., 1823) stage II juveniles

The aim of this study was to screen potential probiotic bacteria against Aeromonas hydrophila and determine the effects of antagonistic bacteria and a commercial product containing lactic acid bacteria on the survival and growth of stage II Astacus leptodactylus juveniles. For this purpose, a total of 110 bacterial strains were isolated from adult, stage II crayfish juveniles and rearing water ...

The reaction of hydroxyurea with oxyhaemocyanin and methaemocyanin of the crayfish Astacus leptodactylus and the snail Helix pomatia.

The reaction of hydroxyurea with the oxyhaemocyanins of Astacus leptodactylus and Helix pomatia yielded methaemocyanins which could be regenerated with hydroxylamine. Hydroxyurea did not react with Astacus methaemocyanin, but quantitatively regenerated Helix methaemocyanin under N2. The reaction of hydroxyurea with Helix haemocyanin at pH 5.7 under air thus led to a steady state, with an oxyhae...

Titration of the Iranian White Spot Virus isolate, on Crayfish Astacus leptodactylus and Penaeus semisulcatus

White Spot Virus (WSV) is currently the most serious viral pathogen of shrimp worldwide it causes mortality up to 100% within 7-10 days in commercial shrimp farms. Infected Indian white shrimp Fenneropenaeus indicus samples were collected from Guatr shrimp site in Sistan and Baluchestan province in south of Iran and WSV infection was confirmed by Nested PCR. WSV was isolated from infected shr...
